Education Bureau Special Incident Assistance Grant Provide each primary and secondary school (including special schools) and each kindergarten with “Special Incident Assistance Grant” of $100,000 and $50,000 respectively in Tai Po District. Schools may flexibly deploy the Grant, including providing psychological counselling services and purchasing learning-related items for affected students.
Education Bureau Territory-wide Education Sector Support Group Establish a territory-wide education sector support group for special incidents, comprising education bodies of primary and secondary schools, kindergartens and special schools, as well as school councils and various school heads’ associations. It serves as an exchange platform that provides more tailored assistance for affected teachers and students, unifying support to help them overcome trauma.
Education Bureau One Support Team for Each School Mobilise one support team for each school to provide immediate, on-site and targeted support for the most-affected primary and secondary schools and kindergartens. This includes assisting schools with resuming operations during the transition, making learning and teaching arrangements, and providing emotional support for teachers and students.
Education Bureau Crisis Management Team Form a crisis management team with school heads of Tai Po district to offer support to affected students and teaching staff. Moreover, the eight universities funded by the University Grants Committee have established dedicated task forces, each led by their respective Vice-Chancellor/Presidents, to follow up on the relief efforts for affected teachers and students.
Education Bureau Facilitate early resumption of face-to-face classes of Tai Po Baptist Public School The premises of Tai Po Baptist Public School (TPBPS) will remain closed for some time due to the fire at Wang Fuk Court. The Education Bureau (EDB) has co-ordinated with schools in the district to modify their premises and has successfully arranged for TPBPS students to attend classes by grade level at the premises of Tai Po Government Primary School and N.T.W.J.W.A Christian Remembrance of Grace Primary School starting mid-December. The EDB has earmarked $5 million to support the operation of the abovementioned schools during the transition and provide appropriate teaching and learning assistance for teachers and students.
Education Bureau Free New Replacement Textbooks With the support of the EDB, around 40 textbook publishers and retailers have provided new replacement textbooks for affected students free of charge.
Education Bureau School-based Educational Psychologist Support School-based educational psychologists from the EDB and school sponsoring bodies are providing support for affected schools. This includes assisting in leading crisis management meetings on campus, guiding and assisting schools in conducting “special class periods”, providing professional individual or group counselling to affected students, and providing telephone consultation services.
Education Bureau Online Seminars on Psychological Support for Special Incidents From November 29 to December 11, the EDB organised 12 online seminars on psychological support for special incidents, targeting school personnel and parents. Psychiatrists, educational/clinical psychologists and university professors were invited to share their professional insights during these seminars.
Education Bureau Tailored Resource Kit To assist school personnel and parents in helping students cope with the fire incident, the EDB has prepared a tailored resource kit, which includes counselling suggestions for schools and parents, along with teaching materials for Special Class Period.
